Specialist Subjects
At Radnor House Prep, we go beyond the basics – offering a rich, varied specialist curriculum that ensures our pupils flourish academically, creatively and physically. Our programme is designed to help every child discover their strengths, build confidence, and develop the wide-ranging skills they’ll need for future learning and life.
We have a strong STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) strand running through much of our curriculum, giving pupils the opportunity to learn through hands-on, real-life projects. This even includes lessons in robotics and electronics — allowing children to build digital literacy and apply it creatively.
Our teaching also embraces modern tools: iPads are used across the curriculum to support learning and students are able to get hands-on with augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) to prepare them for a digital world. Whether working collaboratively or independently, pupils learn design, problem-solving and innovation — skills central to STEM and to navigating an increasingly technological future.
In the linguistic strand, pupils study English and French – developing both strong literacy skills and an early appreciation for language learning.
Our humanities programme includes Geography, History and Religious Studies (RS), giving children a rounded understanding of the world, its cultures, and its past — fostering awareness, empathy and informed global citizenship.
Music, Art, and Drama are key components of our curriculum’s “Creative & Performing Arts” strand — offering children the chance to express themselves, build confidence and explore different forms of creativity.
Through creative arts, children develop aesthetic appreciation, self-expression and collaboration. Whether painting, performing or making music, pupils grow their creative voices across the years.
Physical activity and sport play a central role in life at Radnor Prep. Our programme aims to develop teamwork, leadership, resilience and a love of healthy activity.
Pupils have access to PE, Games and outdoor activity – whether through structured sport, outdoor learning or adventurous activities — promoting physical development, well-being and a balanced lifestyle.
Our approach reflects a belief in holistic education: just as important as academic success is the development of physical confidence, resilience and a sense of fun.
Alongside core academic and specialist subjects, Radnor Prep places a strong emphasis on life skills: emotional intelligence, digital literacy, data literacy, global citizenship, empathy, curiosity, and entrepreneurship are woven into daily learning.
Pupils have the opportunity to work towards the Dukes Young Leaders award — a recognition of their growth not just academically but as thoughtful, responsible members of a community.
Our inclusive and supportive ethos ensures that children of all backgrounds and abilities are welcomed. Specialist teaching is in place from the earliest years, including in computing, sport, music, French and art.
Through regular workshops, clubs, trips and co-curricular activities, we encourage pupils to explore beyond the classroom — discovering new passions and developing a broad, balanced set of interests.
