We are bursting with pride at Radnor House Prep School to share that Benny in Year 6 has been chosen as the winner of the Surrey FA Captain’s Armband Design Competition. Benny’s design, created during an Art lesson here at Radnor House Prep School, was selected as the winner from a large number of entries across the area and will now be proudly worn by football captains representing Surrey FA during Black History Month – and it’s available to buy, with proceeds donated to charity.
The theme for this year’s Black History Month is ‘Standing Firm in Power and Pride’ and Benny’s artwork reflects unity, strength, and captures the essence of history and culture. The design features bold colours and symbolic imagery that communicate a clear message of pride, equality, and resilience.
When asked how he felt about his design being picked as winner Benny said, “I feel joyful!” And with good reason – this is a fantastic achievement, and it’s one that has made us all at Radnor House Prep School beam with pride.
At Radnor House Prep School, we place a high value on creativity as a core pillar of our curriculum and ethos, through our specialist Art and STEAM teaching and studios, through to how we encourage our pupils to think. We champion creative, curious and critical thinkers at every step. Benny’s success is a shining example of how creativity can be used not just for self-expression, but to make a meaningful impact in the wider community.
“Benny – we are so proud of you. Your joy is our joy, and your success is a celebration for all of us. Your design shows the power of art, the importance of inclusion, and the incredible things that can happen when young minds are inspired,” said Sasha Davies, Head, Radnor House Prep School.
Congratulations from everyone at Radnor House Prep School, Benny!
